I woke up this morning and for the first time in weeks, I had a moment to sit down and write. Since April 12th I have been in Seattle, Denver, New York, and Coeur d’Alene, spoken at a conference, a fundraising gala, and a women’s retreat, graduated one son from homeschooling and hosted a party for him, celebrated Sweet Pea’s upcoming graduation, enjoyed Mother’s Day with a family hike, gone on an overnight homeschooling field trip, attended track meets and lacrosse games, and lived life as the mother of a large family. I am very thankful that I am not going out of town one single time this week – I want to stay home!
Today is Honeybee and Dimples’ last full day of school – tomorrow is a half day. I am not prepared for the year to end! I would feel much better if I had a good plan in place for Dimples, and I am working on it, but there are lots of gaps. I also wish I had a little bit more time for homeschooling, but that will end today as well. There are a few things we need to work on over the summer – handwriting and reading. I’m ordering new italic handwriting books for the boys today.
The girls are each setting three goals of things they want to learn or achieve over the summer. We’re going to write them down and work toward accomplishing them. Dimples wants to create her own cookbook by gathering recipes and organizing them in a notebook. I also have some vague thoughts about setting up our own reading program. Does anybody have a great idea?
Sweet Pea is in the midst of packing. Yesterday she shipped 280 lbs. of books to Minneapolis. Media mail was by far the least expensive option for shipping books, even if she doesn’t really know how long it will be before they arrive. She still hasn’t settled on how to ship the rest of her belongings and unfortunately, her car isn’t powerful enough to tow a U-Haul trailer. If Noah travels with her, she may rent a U-Haul truck, but she is nervous about trying to tow her car behind a truck on her own.
I have so much to be thankful for today.
